Deprecated and removed features

ThoughtSpot sometimes deprecates and then removes existing features, replacing them with new and more effective ways to use our products. In this article, we provide a list of features we’ve chosen to deprecate or remove in each release.

ThoughtSpot deprecates some existing features, and then removes them. These terms mean two different things.

Deprecated

A deprecated feature still exists in the product, for backward compatibility, but there is a plan to remove it in a later release. Deprecated features do not receive ongoing support from ThoughtSpot.

We recommend that you stop using deprecated features as soon as possible, and change your workflows to use the new, improved functionality instead.

Removed

A removed feature no longer exists in the product. When you upgrade to a newer release, any workflows that rely on a removed feature no longer work.

Removed in 10.4.0.cl

The 10.4.0.cl release of ThoughtSpot Cloud, targeted for November 2024 (GA), removes the following feature from the Data workspace:

  • Search Assist

  • SpotIQ Insights on the Worksheet detail page

  • Profile

  • Review Suggestions

Deprecated in 10.4.0.cl

The 10.4.0.cl release of ThoughtSpot Cloud, targeted for November 2024 (GA), deprecates the following features:

Create new worksheet in Data workpace

  • Create new > Worksheet

Existing Worksheets continue to be available, but Worksheet creation is disabled by default. To enable Worksheet creation, you must contact your ThoughtSpot administrator.

You can migrate an individual Worksheet to a Model, by doing the following:

    1. From the Data workspace page, open a Worksheet.

    2. Select the More menu more menu, and then Convert to Model.

Bulk migration of Worksheets to Models will be available in the 10.5.0.cl release.

IAMv1 migration to IAMv2

Enhanced Identity and Access Management (aka IAMv2) is being enabled for customers as part of maintenance windows for all ThoughtSpot Enterprise customers. IAMv1 support will be removed in an upcoming release.

Ensure you are ready for migration to IAMv2 by reviewing and following the steps in the documentation so that there is no login disruption for your users after migration.

For more information, see Identity and Access Management V2. Accept in-product notifications for IAM updates. Contact ThoughtSpot Support if you have any questions.

Deprecated in 10.1.0.cl

The 10.1.0.cl release of ThoughtSpot Cloud, targeted for August 2024 (GA), deprecates the following features in the Data workspace. You can still use these features, but ThoughtSpot will remove these features in a later release.

  • Search Assist

  • SpotIQ Insights on the Worksheet detail page

  • Profile

  • Review Suggestions

Removed in 10.1.0.cl

The 10.1.0.cl release of ThoughtSpot Cloud, targeted for August 2024 (GA), removes the following features:

Classic experience for Liveboards, Answers, and SpotIQ

Beginning in the 10.1.0.cl release, you can no longer use the Classic experience for Liveboards, Answers, and SpotIQ. The "new experience" from the previous release is now the only option and is on by default.

Removed in 9.12.0.cl

The 9.12.0.cl release of ThoughtSpot Cloud, targeted for April 2024 (GA), will remove the following feature:

SpotApps

Beginning in the 9.12.0.cl release, you will no longer be able to use the SpotApps UI. Though we are retiring the UI, you will still be able to upload pre-built SpotApp templates. You can download the SpotApp templates, which are TML files, from our developer website, CodeSpot. You can then modify (if applicable) and import these TML files into your cluster using our TML import/export utility from the Data workspace to achieve the same result as using the original SpotApp.

Deprecated in 9.10.0.cl

The 9.10.0.cl release of ThoughtSpot Cloud, targeted for February 2024 (GA), will deprecate the following feature. ThoughtSpot will drop support for this feature in a later release.

SpotApps

Beginning in the 9.10.0.cl release, you can still use SpotApps, but ThoughtSpot will remove them in a subsequent release.

Removed in 9.8.0.cl

The 9.8.0.cl release of ThoughtSpot Cloud, targeted for January 2024 (GA), will remove the following feature:

Footer text in Liveboard PDFs

Beginning in the 9.8.0.cl release, you will no longer see an option to add footer text to Liveboard PDFs. This resolves the issue of misaligned footers in exported PDFs from Liveboards. This applies to Liveboard PDFs only.

Removed in 9.5.0.cl

The 9.5.0.cl release of ThoughtSpot Cloud, targeted for July 2023 (GA), will remove the following feature:

Page numbers in downloaded Liveboard PDFs

Beginning in the 9.5.0.cl release, you will no longer see an option to include page numbers when you download a Liveboard PDF. This change ensures that Liveboard PDF downloads do not result in timeout errors.

Automatically select my chart toggle

We are removing the Automatically select my chart toggle at the bottom of the chart type selection panel. Once you select a chart type, ThoughtSpot retains the chart type as you make changes to the search query. For cases where the search query can no longer render as the same chart type (due to the removal of necessary attributes or measures), ThoughtSpot automatically selects a chart type that can render based on the query.

Removed in 9.4.0.cl

The 9.4.0.cl release of ThoughtSpot Cloud, targeted for August 2023 (GA), removed the following feature:

Pin Headlines

ThoughtSpot removed the pin Headline to Liveboard feature. Beginning in the 9.4.0.cl Cloud release, users will no longer see the pin icon when they select table summaries. To visualize and pin single aggregated measures, attributes in string/date format, or time-series metrics with sparklines, we recommend creating KPI charts. Existing Headlines pinned to Liveboards will not be affected in this release. For more information on converting Headlines to KPI charts, see How to convert Headlines to KPI charts.

Removed in 9.2.0.cl

The 9.2.0.cl release of ThoughtSpot Cloud, targeted for April 2023 (GA), will remove the following feature:

Include and exclude values in Liveboard visualizations

ThoughtSpot will remove the Include only <value> and Exclude <value> options in the contextual menu for Liveboard visualizations. These options are still available for Liveboard visualizations in Explore mode. They are also available when you are searching data or viewing an Answer.

Deprecated in 8.3.0.cl

The 8.3.0.cl release of ThoughtSpot Cloud, targeted for April 2022 (GA), will deprecate the following features. ThoughtSpot will drop support for this feature in a later release.

Liveboard deprecations

The following features which were available previously in the classic Liveboard experience are no longer available in a Liveboard.

  • Share a visualization: The share button for a specific visualization within a Liveboard is no longer available. Instead, share the Liveboard. Then, click the more menu more options menu icon for the visualization, and select Copy link. This provides you with a link to the specific visualization within the Liveboard. You can send that link to the user you shared the Liveboard with.

  • Switch between Liveboards from the Liveboard title: This feature allowed you to select a Liveboard title and view a list of other recently edited Liveboards that you could select. Instead, navigate between Liveboards from your home page, or the Liveboard list page.

  • Copy embed link: The Copy embed link option in the more menu more options menu icon for the Liveboard or a visualization is no longer available. Instead, use the SDK for embedding purposes.

  • Change title menu option: The Change title option in the more menu more options menu icon for a visualization is no longer available. Instead, to make changes to the Liveboard, you must be in edit mode. To enter edit mode, select the Edit button at the upper right of the Liveboard. Then, select the visualization title or description to edit it inline.

  • Liveboard edit icon: The Liveboard edit icon edit icon image next to the Liveboard name, for editing the Liveboard name or description, is no longer available. Instead, to make changes to the Liveboard, you must be in edit mode. To enter edit mode, select the Edit button at the upper right of the Liveboard. If this button is grayed out, you do not have edit privileges for the Liveboard. To resolve this, contact your administrator or the creator of the Liveboard.

  • Edit an Answer in Liveboard present mode: This feature allowed users to select the edit icon edit icon image while presenting a Liveboard, and directly edit the Answer. Instead, exit Present mode, and edit the Answer.

Removed in 8.2.0.cl (March Cloud)

The 8.2.0.cl (March Cloud) release of ThoughtSpot Cloud, targeted for March 2022 (GA), will drop support for the following feature:

Business user onboarding

ThoughtSpot will replace the current business user onboarding (present in 8.1.0.cl and earlier) with a new onboarding flow. The new onboarding flow directs new users to Search Assist, where they can complete sample searches on demo data or their company’s data.

Removed in 8.0.0.cl (January Cloud)

The 8.0.0.cl (January Cloud) release of ThoughtSpot Cloud, targeted for January 2022 (GA), will drop support for the following feature:

Liveboard follow

In November Cloud 2021 and earlier, there are two different ways for a user to ask ThoughtSpot to email them a Liveboard PDF on a specified schedule. You can follow the Liveboard, or schedule a Liveboard job.

In 8.0.0.cl (January Cloud) and later releases, ThoughtSpot will combine these features into a single action called "Schedule." The Follow option will not be available. This change will allow any user to schedule their own Liveboard emails. To send Liveboard emails to other users, you still need the can schedule for others permission.

ThoughtSpot will migrate any existing Liveboard follows to Liveboard schedules. If you followed a Liveboard in November Cloud or earlier, you will see it in the list of Liveboard schedules for that Liveboard as Migrated from follow (your display name).

Removed in August Cloud

The August Cloud release of ThoughtSpot Cloud, targeted for August 2021 (GA), will drop support for the following feature:

Ask an Expert

This feature allowed users to ask a designated expert on a particular data source for help when they run into an issue with an Answer or search they created on that data source. Now, users can learn about specific data sources in a number of different ways, such as searching across existing Answers and Pinboards, or completing Search Assist sample queries on their own data.

Removed in May Cloud

The May Cloud release of ThoughtSpot Cloud, targeted for May 2021 (GA), will drop support for the following features:

Home page shortcuts for Answers and Pinboards

In May Cloud, we are replacing this feature with the ability to add important metrics from Pinboards to your watchlist and track them from the home page. To quickly access your most-used Answers and Pinboards in May Cloud, favorite these objects and toggle My favorites.

Replay search

Customers currently use Replay search to learn how to use ThoughtSpot’s search on data. As an alternative, use Search Assist to learn how to use ThoughtSpot’s search on data, either on demo data, or on your company’s data.

Learn how to use ThoughtSpot Pinboard

This Pinboard contains search replays created in the system. The Replay Search feature is removed in May Cloud. Customers currently use Replay search and the Learn how to use ThoughtSpot Pinboard to learn how to use ThoughtSpot’s search on data. As an alternative, use Search Assist to learn how to use ThoughtSpot’s search on data, either on demo data, or on your company’s data.

Deprecated in May Cloud

The May Cloud release of ThoughtSpot Cloud, targeted for May 2021 (GA), will deprecate the following features. ThoughtSpot will drop support for these features in a later release. If you have the new Answer experience turned on, these features are removed in May Cloud. To use these features, turn the new Answer experience off individually from your profile or for your whole company by contacting ThoughtSpot Support.

Multiple join path resolution within the formula editor or a search

When you try to search on columns with more than one possible join path, the system no longer allows you to define the join path within the search. Similarly, when you try to create a formula with columns with more than one possible join path, the system does not allow you to define the join path. Instead, the system now prompts you to resolve this issue and avoid confusion or incorrect data by creating a Worksheet with the correct join path.

Send feedback

The option to send product feedback, from the more options menu more options menu icon on an Answer or search.

Client-side summaries for tables

We consolidated column summaries and headlines into one summary, called a headline summary. To calculate these headline summaries, ThoughtSpot executes one SQL query for each summary against the underlying database. These headline summaries are integrated with the table columns. You can pin them to Pinboards.
